My journey as an artist
After 20+ years of practice and research regarding health and community, I see wellbeing, coaching and art as intertwining practices.
Co-creating — be it through coaching, research or art — requires submitting to an unknown path. I could not have conducted ethnographic and qualitative research without the kindness of research participants. I could not create the art I make without the creative force within me.
I have seen firsthand how art is a channel for human expression and relationship, that can shape collective thinking and inform dialogue and social transformation. Art is a powerful tool to lend a voice to and highlight the agency of those silenced by society and its institutions. In this way art can also be a means for health equity. For me, art is also about following joy and delight, which in a hyper-productive corporate culture can be a radical act that honors one’s voice within. Read more about me as an artist here.
“I purchased “Bay Area Bunny” after seeing it in Karen’s newsletter. The piece exceeded my expectations. Karen’s passion for her craft and bright and positive personality shine through her art.”
— Cyna
“Your art is on our mantle in the living room, directly in front of the island in the kitchen. She brings so much joy and strength to our home. Thank you for this beautiful work.”
