20 years in research, evaluation and public health

I am an applied researcher, evaluator, public health consultant and artist. I facilitate strengths-based, participatory processes for health promotion, community empowerment and social justice.

Prior to establishing my independent practice, I drove Meta’s responsible international community growth strategy through user experience (UX) research about what helps international communities sustain and thrive. My PhD employed critical ethnography to collaborate with an Indigenous Australian community-controlled health organization (20+ clinics), which led to a model for decolonising health promotion and supported the organization’s scaling of its health promotion program nationally. I have also led numerous research and evaluation initiatives in robotic surgery/bronchoscopy, primary healthcare services, refugee and migrant health, and community-based health promotion. My postdoctoral research contributed to a model for Indigenous-led research and research capacity building.

I have extensive industry experience in program management, policy, advocacy and capacity strengthening, where I drove change at multiple levels, from local to global, in a number of countries including Australia, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Switzerland and the United States. Throughout my work in academia, public sector, not-for-profit and corporate, I leverage systems and community-centered change for the benefit of all.

I have also held numerous leadership roles such as Vice President for the New South Wales chapters of the Australian Public Health Association and the Australian Health Promotion Association, lead of the Facebook international community research squad, and associate editor for the Health Promotion Journal of Australia.
