For this painting, Jennie (mother) and Karen (daughter) took their collaboration for this exhibition one step further by creating together on the same canvas, at the same time. Ducking between each other, sharing the act of making the painting, enjoying the ways that creativity opens up special ways of communicating together… resulted in this painting reflecting more than the visual portrait of Pandanas in soft light, but of shared experience as well. Choosing colours was a shared action along the way.
The time of the soft gathering light can be morning or evening, a lovely time of day that is a soothing balm to the soul. Over the years, Jennie and Karen’s shared mother-daughter walks along the Gold Coast beaches have been times of chatting and dreaming together, while appreciating our shoreline and wildlife as they peeked through the iconic pandanus trees.
